January Squirrel Hunt

Dave and his Big Bad Daystate Air Wolf  shows me how he made  his 65 yard squirrel head shot. We couldn't believe the weather- January 8th in Michigan. 38*, Sunny and light wind.  He actually missed his first shot.  Dave carries a range finder, so he knew the exact range.  He did however, fail to give any allowance for the cross wind.  The squirrel who had it's head sticking out of a hole in the tree, pulled back into the tree, but shortly after, stuck his head out of the tree once again.  This time Dave held for the wind, perfect hit right behind the ear.  Popped the squirrel right out of the hole.

I was close behind with a 62 yard one shot using my FX Royale 400 .22cal, and at that range I actually saw the squirrel roll off the limb a fraction of a second later I heard the loud audible "whoap" of a well placed head shot.  I also used my Rapid MKII .25cal set up at 35 ft/lbs with JSB's.  made a 54 yard head shot on a Big Grey, Amazing, hit right where I was aiming, right behind the eye, fell just like a field target at a competition.  Just rolled out of the tree, he never knew what hit him. Most shots were taken between 40 - 55 yards.  These are awesome squirrel woods, first time we hunted them.  Sure pays to know your aim points at longer ranges.

January 5, 2012 Indoor Bench Rest

Thursday January 5, 2012 Precision Airguns held their first indoor Bench Rest Competition of the year.  A great group of people attended, and it was wonderful to see how well they shot using a variety of rifles and pistols.  We also had two youth shooters, which is always great to see our sport continue to the next generation.  Emphasis was on fun shooting at 50 feet, with a variety of air rifles. Yours truly only had time to shoot his first card. (using my squirrel rig, FX Royale 400 and  3-9 Leupold)  Shot a 250/11X.

Since this Bench Rest was just for fun, many of the participate played with more than one model of gun when shooting their three targets.  Here are just some of rifles that were used.

Holiday Shooting with JSB's

We hope you enjoyed your Holidays.  With unusually nice weather here in Michigan, fairly clam with a light mist of rain and very light winds.  I wanted to fire a couple of groups to test out the new shipment of JSB 18 grains .22cal.

First group shot with my tried and true Royale 400 with smooth twist barrel.

Second group with my out of the box Theoben MKII.

Shot only one group with each rifle, @ 50 yards,  with 9x Leupold and Weaver Scopes.

Both groups basically dime size or better.

Rifle was left on high power, unbeknownst to me after demonstrating to a customer, found out it shoots good at high power also. I believe this was 6 shots.  

 So I decided to push it out to 60 yards

Thrilled that the snow wasn't blowing in December, It was nice to get outside and let the airguns stretch their legs a little bit.  60 yards 10 shot dime size groups, shows the JSB's are still the Hot Ticket!

When I say Nice Rack, I'm not talking about Santa's Reindeer or the Buck I didn't get this season or anything else you guys might be thinking.  I am talking about the Beautiful shipment of Theobens that just arrived!  What a great choice for the New Year, be sure and consider Theobens Rapids.

For those of you not familiar with Thoeben, they are considered to be one of the best all around sporter pcp's built.  One of my favorites because of their tried and true, simple and robust design.

The Rapids received their name based on their quick cycling,  bolt action which operates a 12 shot magazine.  They can also be easily single loaded through the side of the scalloped receiver.  Rapid MKII's are available regulated and non-regulated.  Non-reg'd guns have capabilities of producing slightly higher power.  Regulated guns provide a longer, more consistent shot count.

January 5, 2012 - Indoor Airgun Bench Rest

Join us on Thursday, January 5, 2012 for an Indoor Airgun Bench Rest.  Just for Fun  We will be using Official 25 yard Airgun Bench Rest Targets and shooting at 50 feet.  Any airgun rifle or  pistol, scoped or non-scoped.  Maximum 30 ft/lb.  $5.00 covers targets and range fees.  5:00pm - 9:00pm  Please call 248-969-0377 to reserve you spot.

Local Customer Receives Award

On December 3, at the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) Lodge #130 in Oakland County. The lodge held their annual installation dinner.  Our local customer and friend Dave Lovio received an award of Special Recognition.

 Dave is a member of FOP Lodge #112 in Macomb County. "To receive this from a lodge other than my own is really a great honor," said Lovio, who does building improvements for both lodges and came to #130 for help with Katrina relief.

"We had a drive for clothing, food, furniture -- anything that someone who has lost everything could use," Lovio said. The Louisiana State University grad missed watching the LSU football game to accept his award. "LSU won and so did I," he said.

TM1000 by Rapid Air Weapons

Rapid Air Weapons TM1000 has arrived.

The highly anticipated Target PCP from Rapid Air Weapons arrived late last evening.  It was almost 10:30pm before I had some time to test fire the new TM1000. In a few words "It did not disappoint".  Rifle has a very solid feel to it.  Easy side lever cocking. The aluminum parts have a light grey anodizing.  The barrel sleeve is bead blasted stainless steel.  The Walnut Thumbhole stock has a grip area and feel that is reminiscent of Theobens Vanquish Stock.  The end air cap that covers the fill nipple is threaded on as opposed to snap on, snap off, and works very well.  The top of the receiver has a standard dove tail, along with three larger than average barrel screws to hold the barrel securely in place.

 Caliber changes are as simple as loosening the three screws, removing barrel and replacing it with the caliber of your choice.  No need to change anything on the bolt assembly. Looks like any Theoben Rapid barrel should fit on this action.  

In the time it took me to talk about it, the change was completed.

 I fired one 5 shot group @ 60 yards, which can be covered with a dime.

Air Arms Walnuts ARE BACK

In has been months since we have seen walnut stocks on any Air Arms PCP's.  I was under the impression that they were discontinued. Low and behold, walnut stocks arrived on our last shipment.
